Accommodation

Arrival and night 1

We welcome you to The Girls Brigade Lodge on the banks of the Waimata River any time after 4 pm. Settle in and enjoy the country atmosphere. Your host will arrive to meet you at aprox. 6.30 pm and explain the Day 1 walk. You will receive maps and walk information. Spend your first night in this original, character-filled lodge, built in the 1950s for the Scouts and Girls Brigade of Gisborne and extensively refurbished for Walk Gisborne. The lodge sleeps 12 and has a fully equipped kitchen, living and outdoor areas. Share the experiences of the day around the large wooden table (made by your host Penny herself), in the outdoor area or curl up on comfortable sofas.

Nights 2 and 3

The Shearers' Quarters will be your accommodation for nights 2 and 3. In bygone years, The Quarters was a vital farm building housing the shearing gang while they shore the station’s sheep. The Quarters sleeps 14 and has a fully equipped kitchen, living and outdoor area. Enjoy the views down the valley to Poverty Bay, Young Nicks Head and the Pacific Ocean. Close by is the Rimunui Woolshed where you may experience the workings of the farm – mustering, docking or shearing. You are welcome to observe these activities but we ask that you introduce yourselves to Kevin the manager, Jeremy the shepherd or Wiki the fencer general.

Linen

Linen is provided. Enjoy the extra luxury of snuggling up in Walk Gisborne’s fresh bed linen – sheets, pillow case, duvet and fresh towels daily plus an extra fresh towel for you to shower at the end of your day 3 walk.

Pampering

Just do it. You’ll deserve it on Night 2 after your first full-on walk. Lie back, relax and feel those walking muscles come back to life at the hands of a qualified Masseuse. Choose your massage - either back, neck and shoulder; therapeutic scalp; and therapeutic feet and hands. And with the added benefit of divinely fragrant aromatherapy treatments, you’ll be raring to get walking again the next day - see pricing.
